My ideal politician

A lot of us rag on politicians a lot. I know I do at least. I've always voted third party because the whole concept of lesser of two evils doesn't sit well with me. Some famous guy once said "the lesser of two evils is still evil." I say, "yeah, what he said."

That said, here's my ideal politician. Feel free to agree, disagree, add, subtract, or whatever. I love comments and I love debates, as long as they're civil of course.

Just a warning, it's a long read. If you hate politics and you're just here for my movie reviews and tips on killing zombies, feel free to skip it. If you're a political junkie like me, enjoy...

This is my ideal politician. And don't worry, it really is a text document, not a nekkid pic of a hot Italian actress as a lot of you would have expected from me.

wow zombie-slayer, outside of you saying that let the UN deal with the middle east I can't disagree with anything else you said about that. Also, one add to your post, when you lower the drinking age (im for it at 18) I think that if you do want it legalized at 15-16 make the driving age 18. They do it in Europe (one of the very few things they do right) and they don't have nearly as many problems as we do.

As a new reader of mine, you will learn that I do not get into religious or political discussions. Those kinds of talks only lead to arguments and fighting, and I believe nothing is solved with fighting.

Just so you know, I don't touch those two subjects with a ten foot pole. Not that I disagree with you or invalidate your opinions and beliefs, I may very well agree on everything. But I just stay silent where that kind of stuff is concerned.

So if you have a post with one of those two topics therein and I do not comment, know that I am not ignoring your blog. I'm still reading, just waiting on something I feel comfortable commenting on.

I will, however, say something on the driving age in the U.S. I think, if they're going to keep the legal driving age of 16, that the high school grades and discipline record should reflect the ability to obtain a driver's license. I can't be sure, but I believe Oklahoma is trying to get something like that started. This way, the kids who make failing grades, skip school, start fights, get suspended, get caught smoking a little Mary Jane in the bathroom, etc. aren't allowed to get behind the wheel of a car. The students who go to school on time, make pretty good grades, and maintain perfect discipline records aren't punished for the dumbasses' mistakes. I feel that raising the age to 18 would be punishing those who really do obey the law and are mature enough to handle a vehicle.

Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one. This is just my asshole - I mean, opinion.

Fascinating responses. You both had me rethinking the whole 16 year old drivers license laws.
I guess one incentive for young folks is to have the drivers license at 18, but if the past
few years (14 and 15 or so) their grades were over x GPA and no problems, allow them an early license? Of course,
they lose it if their GPA drops below x or they get in trouble. Then they're back to 18 like everyone else.
Just an idea, but I would rather have the drinking age lower than the driving age so drinking is no longer rebellious and cool and just seen as another thing people do.

I'd go with most of those positions -- kind of libertarian with the odd socialist leaning, but a few Buchananesqe touches on immigration. Beats the policies of the Incumbent Party anyway.

Jason, wow, that's almost exactly how I would describe myself. I'm a kind of libertarian with a few socialist beliefs (like Single-Payer health care, taking care of our injured, but not the lazy, etc), and very Buchananish when it comes to immigration. However, I'm quite environmetally conscious too, but I don't know if that would be considered a politics thing.

I recall seeing the funeral of a Politician; set in a news paper cartoon, where a man say's to a little boy, "That there son, is a Good Politician".

I agree with just about everything. I don't think lowering the drinking age will help. I was stealing beer from my buddies dad when I was 11 and that is way below your proposed age. I think alot of the problems we have with drinking and with sexual issues are caused by the taboos imposed upon them. It causes the rebellious response you refer too. We need to change our cultures treatment of those problems. Lowering the drinking age won't really help.

Other than that the piece was well written and could describe me. Should I run for office?
