Absolutely horrible
For the record, I neither had money on the game nor am I a Seahawks fan. But what I watched was the worst officiated game I've ever seen, and I've watched, coached, and played plenty of football games on a variety of levels. So I don't say these words lightly.
Hasselback makes a superb tackle. And the referees tack on a fifteen yard penalty for an illegal block done by him. Huh? Hasselback throws a TD and it gets pulled back for offensive pass interference. They touched each other. There should have been no penalty there. Hasselback throws a deep pass and it gets called back for offensive holding. Even the announcers said that was a lousy callAlso, I noticed a Steelers' off-sides that wasn't called and even Rothlesburger's TD was questionable. All the errors went on the side of the Steelers. If I find out later on that the referees get fired for having money on the Steelers, I wouldn't be surprised.

I watched little snippets of the game, but I'm not a football fan, so I didn't understand the fallacies of the refs' judgments. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I was just happy the Seahawks even went to the Superbowl.
It was an empty victory for the Steelers for all the reasons you state. It's sad that the most important game of the season comes down to bad officiating. Deplorable. That said, I thought Rothlesburger got in, or at least that there wasn't enough to overturn the call. And I was rooting for the Steelers.
I'm not a football fan, but I'm generally suspect of referees and umpires. But it could be worse, it could be totally subjective like gymnastics...

Yeah...props to Pittsburgh for winning, but it was a kind of weak win. The officiating was lame and ridiculously ticky tack.
I was just disappointed overall at how boring the game was.
How is it that every Super Bowl game is one penalty after the other? It makes for such boring football.
Didn't watch the game - more important things to do. I did TiVo it, but if I get short on memory, it'll be the first to go. Bad calls are part of the game, video review or no.

I was root for the seahawks too! But what was up with their quarterback always throwing the ball like 2 yards away from where it should have been? I was getting frustrated with him because the ball always seemed to be going to no one.

Scott - That's why I didn't make a big stink about the Rothlesburger TD. It was close, so I couldn't tell. But the three items I put a dead zombie by, I thought those were the really bad calls.
Laura - Yeah, I remember. I tried to tease you about the Bears, and they went on to beat my Packers twice. :(

Sadie - The refs are supposed to let the guys play and call less penalties. Instead, they only called penalties on Seattle. It appeared fixed.
Mike - The thing is, bad calls are reality, but they're not supposed to be that many in one game. Plus, they're not supposed to be that one sided.

Slade - He did look pretty bad. He's usually much better than that.
Bar - Yes, they were. That was definitely the highlight of the game.

Bruce - Last one. Well, besides the Pro Bowl which is sort of a game, but even a lot of hard-core football fans skip it.

zombie, no offense. i have just never, ever enjoyed the game. i tolerate a season of high school games so i can watch my kid march in the band at halftime. the game itself is agony for me.
in high school i was infuriated that a million dollar stadium would be built while the school itself crumbled around our ankles. i found it annoying that the illiterate behemoths in college could get a full ride for 4 years while i as an honor student had to beg, borrow and steal to get through.
professional sports in general appalls me. players make more than world leaders and get treated like minor dieties. meanwhile admission to the games requires the average middle class family to remortgage their home. it's all just very skewed and it bugs the crap out of me.

Lime - I won't argue with you because I agree it's messed up. We do take our entertainers too seriously sometimes. However, football vs baseball vs movie stars are night and day.
Football, they have to work, they leave the game injured, and die early. It's a saying that for every year you play in the NFL, you take two to three years off your life.
Baseball and basketball players make more money and they don't leave with major injuries.
Movie stars have it easiest of all. Their complaints? No privacy. Well, no !@#$%^& actors, that's what you wanted. Be careful what you wish for.
In football, it takes intelligence to coach. Other sports don't. We know from movies and television that it doesn't take intelligence to be a movie writer. :(
And considering how stupid actors are, I'd take football intelligence above actors. At least football players know better to keep their mouths shut.
I guess tongue-in-cheek doesn't work as well on the Internet as it does in person, lol. I haven't watched the Super Bore since 1985.
Bruce - Da Bears, huh? That was one of the most lopsided ones I've ever seen. I did enjoy the '96-97 Super Bowl. :)

One call that clearly appeared erroneous came after that penalty, when Hasselbeck threw an interception to Pittsburgh's Ike Taylor, then made the tackle but was called for a block below the waist, giving the Steelers an extra 15 yards. They scored soon afterward on a pass from Antwaan Randle El to Hines Ward. Replays showed Hasselbeck never made contact with the player he was supposed to have hit illegally, instead going straight to Taylor to make the tackle.

i really wouldn't have minded the calls, if the refs called a couple on the stealers...such as the hold that heath miller had when willie parker's 75 yard run or the delay of game, when ben worthlessburger called a timeout with 0 seconds
oh well, i feel good about the hawks, i'm proud of the boys!
Thom - I forgot all about those. Dang, I should have mentioned them. Bring back that 75 yard run and it would be a completely different game. And yes, there was no excuse for those refs not calling a delay of game penalty.
Referees make mistakes. But for every single mistake to go the way of the Steelers was fishy.
