Two hot American singers and a tag
I remember the very first time I heard Lauryn Hill. I was delivering pizza with the radio on. My tapes kept melting in the hot sun, so I only listened to the radio back then. Suddenly, I heard an angel's voice sing:
Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song.
I remember that as a song from the 70s. I liked the way Ms Hill sang it better. Although I'm not a fan of that kind of music (my wife is, I prefer metal), I loved the Fugees version of it and blasted it every time it came on the radio.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that she was pleasant on the eyes as well as the ears. What a pretty face, and what a body! Here's Lauryn Hill. I know she's done some solo work, so no idea if she's still with the Fugees or not. Like I said, not my kind of music.
That same year, one of my buddy's introduced me to Tori Amos. I loved her first album and got a chance to see her live during the Boys for Pele tour. Wow, what a voice she had as well. It was so crisp, clean, and passionate. Also, when I think about her song Winter, I think of a girl I used to love dearly.
I can't take a steady dose of Tori though. She just got more weird with each album and I can't even stomach anything recent, but I'll always love Little Earthquakes.
* * * * *
And I got tagged by Bsoholic, so I decided to add it to this post since I have no singer jokes.
the rules:
1. go into your archive.
2. find your 23rd post.
3. find the fifth sentence (or closest to).
4. post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. tag five other people to do the same.
And here is the fifth sentence of my 23rd post:
"Oh yeah," I answer back. "I forgot that."
I won't tag anyone but if anyone wants to take this tag, feel free.

Lauryn Hill is a powerhouse indeed. She is a favorite around this house, and I have to say, Killing Me Softly has always been one of my favorite songs, I learned to sing it when I was a child... but I love the way the Fugees did it.
She is definitly not with the Fugees anymore, personal issues amongst the members... namely her and Wycleff.
And I will take your tag... 23rd post 5th line:
"Most of us have had those weird, humiliating dreams about walking through the school with nothing to cover your nakedness."
Yeah, sorry about the tag. I don't typically do those meme things, but it seemed easy and I was feeling uncreative that day.
I always dug that song. It's sort of a bummer that the Fugees split up, but there were some good solo albums afterward.
It's a bit weird to think of it as a song from 'back in the day'...but I suppose time just keeps rolling on.
Oh, oh, one time, Two times...
I liked Tori Amos too...but you're right about her being a bit much much now. I saw her in concert with an old girlfriend around the time of Little Earthquakes. It was a good show and scored me points. You've gotta appreciate an artist who scores you points.
Lauryn came on to the music scene like a powerhouse and then she just sort of disappeared. What happened to her? I dug her voice.
Tori Amos is an odd choice for hotness. I like her music but it's really hit and miss. Some songs are just so dull and others are great.
Sadie - Yeah, Amos is that way. her first album was marvelous, but only a few songs here and there touched me since. I have no idea what happened to Hill. you're right, she came onto the scene huge and disappeared.
Shawn - I knew a lot of good-looking women in the 90s who were so heavily into Amos that a guy liking her would definitely go up a notch in desireability.
As for artists scoring points, there are horrible songs that I remember fondly because of who I associate them with.
Bsoholic - Yeah, I've had those days too. That's when I do a hot babe or movie review post. ;)
Clothosfate - I always got the feeling that Wycleff was an egomaniac. I don't know why, but he just strikes me that way. If there was a bad and good guy in that fight, I think it's safe to say Hill was the good guy.
I've never dreamt about going to school nekkid. I do often dream of going to a test and realizing I not only didn't study, but I never even went to the class.
I like Lauryn Hill I think she's a major talent, but I have to say that I prefer the original Roberta Flack rendition of 'Killing Me Softly'. It is a 70's song, I love 70's music. Did you know that Roberta wrote the song 'Killing Me Softly' as a tribute to fellow singer/songwriter Don Mclean(mostly known for American Pie, and Vincent)
I'm sure you're just dazzled by that bit of usless musical trivia. lol ;p
take care. :)
I just couldn't bring myself to tag anyone either!!
Snavylyn - Yeah, that tag was a lot of work.
Moni - I love trivia. Was going to apply for Jeopardy, but it's a lot of work. You have to go through several screenings before getting a spot on that show, and that would mean missing a lot of work. So thanks for that not so useless tip. By the way, I like Flack, don't get me wrong, but there's something exceptional about Hill's voice.
***poof*** Here I am...Sorry I am late...Had to run right over and comment on one of my favorite blogs...I am a metal head to but every once in a while someone civil grabs me by my ears and says listen to me...Lauryn Hill was one of those people and honestly Lenny Kravitz is too...***poof***
And I thought Lauryn Hill just did that one hip-hoppy song that was on MTV a lot five or six years ago.
*crawls out of her cave to look around a bit*
Boy, is my face red! I always thought the words to that song were: "Strummin' my FACE with his fingers". It really never made sense to me, and seemed comical to picture someone strumming someone's face.
I think the Fugees are long gone, but it's a shame Lauryn Hill has been quiet lately.
Tori Amos is WAAAY too weird for me.
I didn't know who Lauryn Hill was until I read the lyrics. Aha! That song is haunting. I always turn it up.
Lauyn was definitly not the bad guy in the situation, but then its all about perspective...
She got pregnant with Wycleff's baby. Wycleff was married at the time.
Just a little bit o' celeb gossip for ya.
"She got pregnant with Wycleff's baby. Wycleff was married at the time."
I like Wycleff too.
"I'll be gone 'till November, I'll be gone 'till November...January, Febuary, March, April, Maaay."
Sadie - I won't deny Wycliff has loads of talent...
Clothosfate - Ah, celeb gossip. Love it. Something I don't do nearly enough.
Scott - It is. I love the part of the song when it's just her and the beat of a drum, before even the bass kicks in. Very few singers could pull that off without the sound feeling like it's missing something.
SME - Tori's getting that way for me too. Like I said, I could only really listen to her first album and even that, Me and a Gun is too disturbing to listen to a lot of times so I skip that too.
Bridget - Yes she is. I was surprised when I first saw her picture.
Michele - Don't feel bad. I've misinterpreted so many songs. What's bad is when you sing them wrong in front of others. :p
Miranda - She's been around awhile but is now quiet again.
Dawner - I'm a total metalhead, but best of genre, no matter what genre, always grabs my attention. Welcome back.
oh my gosh, I didn't even recognize Tori at first...I LOVE HER!
Woooooooo....Zombie you got taste my man!! yup i'll agree....this two girls got a killa voice.... and i think they are really Beautiful....
I rem one time when i was listining to Tori i got this weird thing runnin through me......gave me goose bumps all over...but in a bery good way:)
Zombie invasion? No. They are already here. No one who is alive with a functioning brain could have voted for Bush!
Tori's last 2 albums, Scarlet's Walk and The Beekeeper, were good and not excessively weird. Strange Little Girls was not good, but she returned to form after that.
